Choosing Prescription Sunglass Lenses
Our standard sunglass tint absorbs 85% of visible light – i.e. has a light transmittance factor (LTF) of 15%. This LTF is the most common type of sunglass tint. Please contact us if you require either a lighter or darker tint. Please note that tints with less than 15% LTF are not suitable for driving. Our standard tint colours are black, grey, grey/green, brown, and grey/purple. We are also able to produce sunglass lenses with non-standard tint colours. Non-standard tint colours can only be applied where a customer supplies a lens of the same colour from which we can colour match.
Some sunglasses are supplied by manufacturers with their logos printed on the lenses (e.g. Ray-Ban). Please note that, due to copyright, we are unable to add brand logos on to our prescription sunglass lenses.
Polarized lenses reduce glare, enhance colour perception, and improve contrast. The lenses offer increased safety when driving as they eliminate the glare produced by reflections on wet road surfaces, dashboards, and other cars. Polarized lenses are particularly useful for water sports (such as sailing and fishing) and winter sports, whenever the eyes are under constant stress from the sunlight reflected by flat surfaces (water, snow and ice). Our graduated tint changes from a 15% LTF at the top of the lenses to 100% (clear) at the bottom.
Our Silver Shadow Clean Touch is a scratch-resistant, semi-transparent mirror coating that does not alter the original tint. The coating is available in Crizal Sun UV coating only.
Coatings
The standard prescription lenses fitted to our sunglasses are uncoated. Our scratch-resistant coating helps protect your sunglass lenses against scratches and scuffs, whilst our Crizal Sun UV coating includes an anti-reflection treatment on the rear lens surface which reduces UV reflected into the eyes. The coating reduces smudges and makes lenses easier to clean.
The top-of-the range Crizal Sapphire UV coating includes and anti-reflection coating on both front and rear lens faces, and combines all the benefits of Crizal Sun with dirt and dust repellent properties and best-in-class scratch-resistance. The Crizal Forte UV coating attracts a 2 year no-scratch guarantee.
